On any given day, nearly 60,000 youth under age 18 are incarcerated in juvenile jails and prisons in the United States. 200,000 youth enter the adult criminal-justice system each year, most for non-violent crimes. On any given day, 10,000 juveniles are housed in adult prisons and jails.
